ASUU begins Strike Again over 12,500Naira from the Nigerian Government

I feel so sorry for university students in Nigeria.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities are going on strike again and this time it seems to be indefinite.
They are protesting against government’s refusal to implement the 2009 agreement it reached with the
union and suspend the strike.
According to Punch, ASUU said “We have had several meetings and deliberations to let government understand why these issues must be resolved but it is like the more we meet and deliberate, the messier the issue gets.
“One of the issues that needed to be addressed was basically that of the academic earned allowance.
“This earned allowance, and other issues, had dragged on until government then agreed to write an MOU with the union.“But as we speak, there has been nothing to show that government was committed to an MOU it willingly wrote to better the university sector. “It is in this regard that we are embarking on an indefinite strike,” he said.

They are asking for 12,500 Naira,  £51, $78 allowance and the government is saying they can't afford it! seriously?  Please how much is 12,500 Naira??????? From the kinda money that country makes from oil, how on earth is that too much to ask the government.

Yet our first lady goes about with all this unnecessary entourage. How much does that cost? hundreds of thousands of naira or even millions maybe.

Its bad enough that the academic calender has already been disrupted so much this year this strike is only going to make it worse.

Now all these ASUU and government people, none of their kids will be attending government universities, its either private or abroad. So they couldn't care less about average people.
The last time I checked, the older you are in Nigeria, the harder it becomes to get a job. IF you don't finish
university on time in good age, once you hit 30, thats it your chances of getting a job will reduce massively. And if they carry on like this, students will not graduate at 30, so what can we do?

Why can't the government just appreciate people that work hard to look after the future of the country, if all this generation  goes away, who will be there to lead the country? People you haven't trained?Well  Guess what! they are not going to do a better job that you are at the moment.

We can only hope the government will listen to ASUU and keep their part of the  agreement. Pay them 12,500 Naira and let students have some peace.

Students, all the best, you can only hope for the best.
